All wings of the house face southeast with views of the Green River down the hill. The rooms spill out to terraces and a pool. The home is a visual statement but also a practical one for modern construction. An extended overhang shades the south. Continuous insulation is built-up over the roof rafters to improve thermal performance. The owners opted for a high-efficiency wood stove, inserted in a chimney, rather than a traditional open fireplace. Natural lime finishes and low VOC stains were used throughout the interior. Stainless counters and sinks were selected for the durability and utilitarian appeal. Lime based plasters were used on the walls.
Clear finish wood windows, trim and cabinets warm up the interior. The exterior wood is installed as a rain screen and will be left to weather. The house will be a beautiful and practical base for the family in the years ahead.
