The site is a long, narrow sliver of overgrown land off historic Main Street. The client wanted a light-filled house for a growing family and a private shop building. The house, garage and work shop are arranged enfilade to reflect the linear site. By pushing the buildings to the north, and the placement of southern glazing, we maximized the light into the house. Eleven foot ceilings and varying shades of wood and painted finishes help differentiate spaces and elements within the interior. Open risers and louver-shaped treads on the steel stair serve to let light in. Crisp, minimal detailing emphasizes the rich material palate and surface textures.
